Jimmy John's LogoRumor has it, national sub chain Jimmy Johns will soon be opening a location in Bismarck. There are currently Jimmy Johns restaurants in Fargo and Grand Forks. Unfortunately, its arrival won’t bring much new to the region as Jimmy Johns is extremely similar to Erberts & Gerberts. In fact, Jimmy Johns founder Jimmy John Liautaud and  Erbert & Gerbert founder Kevin Schippers are cousins, and Liautaud assisted Schippers in opening his first restaurant.

Even before I realized the connection, the first time I sat down to an Erbert & Gerbert sandwich I commented how similar it was to one I had at a restaurant called Jimmy Johns when I lived in Minnesota.

If you haven’t tried either Erberts & Gerberts or Jimmy Johns before, I do highly recommend giving them a try; they taste much closer to a locally owned deli than what you find in international chains like Subway and Quiznos.
