The Blizzard of 1997 was a large winter storm that swept through most of North Dakota. It is the largest winter storm in recent history, and a major contributing factor to the Grand Forks Flood. The storm was perhaps second only to the Blizzard of 1966 in severity for the region. 17 inches of snow fell on Bismarck over the course of several days, setting a record for the most snow in a single season of 101.6 inches. Like the 1966 Blizzard, snow drifts buried cars and structures throughout the city.
