Lincoln is a small suburb located immediately southeast of Bismarck near the Bismarck Airport. The city was first established in 1977 to provide affordable housing options to those who would not normally be able to afford owning a home, however has since become a mix of both affordable and higher middle class residential units. Lincoln is one of the fastest growing cities in North Dakota, with its population having increased by an estimated 58.8% since the 2000 Census to a current estimated population of about 2,700 residents.
A true bedroom community, the City of Lincoln has very limited services. There are very little businesses operating within city limits, however Lincoln does contain a bar, restaurant, bank, and convenience store/gas station. Lincoln does have a small police department, however contains no schools, with students instead being bused into nearby Bismarck. There has been discussion over the years to add an elementary school, but it has yet to meet much support.
