Midcontinent Media, known today as Midcontinent Communications, is the region’s cable television provider, and has been since its purchase of Dakota Cable/Meredith Cable.

Midcontinent Media formed in Minneapolis in 1931 as a movie theater operator, and remained in that business until the 1990s. The movie theater at Gateway Mall was owned and operated by Midcontient Media until its purchase by Carmike Theaters, and for many years was the largest movie theater in the region.

Bismarck-Mandan Cable TV was the region’s cable television service provider for decades, until its purchase by Meredith Corporation in or around 1993, who later sold it to Dakota Cable Communications in March 1995.
