Main Avenue, once home to Bismarck's primary shopping destination, is the main road serving downtown Bismarck. Main Avenue runs eastbound from Liberty Memorial Bridge to far eastern Bismarck, where it continues as Highway 10.

At one time, the area near Liberty Memorial Bridge was also a booming area, with a renowned Holiday Inn, A&W Rootbeer, and several other businesses. A&W and the Holiday Inn closed years ago, however two car lots remain in the area, including the nation's oldest Chrysler dealer, Corwin-Churchill Motors.

Prior to the typical decay of downtown Bismarck, Main Avenue, which ran parallel with the Northern Pacific Railway, was the main retail hub, with national retailers that included Sears, Montgomery Ward, Woolworth's, and JCPenney.
